How Nigerian PAYE Works
PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is how employed Nigerians pay income tax. Your employer deducts it from your salary before paying you.
Here's how it's calculated:
- Start with your gross annual salary
- Subtract pension contribution (8%) and other allowable deductions
- Apply the Consolidated Relief Allowance (CRA): ₦200,000 + 20% of gross
- The remainder is your taxable income
- Tax is calculated using progressive brackets (7% to 24%)
The more you earn, the higher your marginal rate — but only on income above each threshold.
